Vehicle 360 Bird's Eye Engine

A real-time Surround View Monitor (SVM) system built to eliminate automotive blind spots through multi-camera image stitching.

The Engineering Challenge

Standard cameras provide a disjointed view. The requirement was to capture 4 wide-angle inputs (Front, Rear, Left, Right) and "stitch" them into a single top-down orthographic projection. This required solving for fisheye distortion, ground-plane alignment, and real-time color balancing to ensure the "seams" between cameras were invisible.

Perspective Transformation

Using OpenCV's WarpPerspective logic, we mapped 3D world coordinates onto a 2D plane. By calculating the homography matrix for each camera, we flattened the fisheye view into a rectangular ground strip.

Alpha Blending & Seams

To hide the overlap zones, we implemented a weighted linear blender. This smoothly transitions pixels from one camera to another in the corner overlap areas, preventing "ghosting" of objects moving between zones.

C++ Performance

Since this is a safety-critical application, we used C++ multi-threading to process all 4 feeds in parallel, achieving a consistent 60FPS with under 15ms of latency from sensor to screen.

Technical Note: For security and NDA compliance, specific vendor names and hardware integration schematics are withheld. Developed using C++, OpenCV, and custom GLSL shaders.
